[RWD] E-Mantra – Ninive Under The Stars (Night Hex Remix)

2015 | Suntrip Records

2015 | Suntrip Records

The ReWind series exists as merely an aid in the discovery (or rather, rediscovery) of the unintentionally forgotten, or the often overlooked tracks of yesteryear.

My oft-expressed appreciation for Goa Trance stems from the style’s organic nature and high pace of delivery. That said, there’s the other side of the coin, the so called Psybient or Downtempo Goa end of the spectrum. This is what we’ll focus on today.

Romanian producer Emanuel Carpus, better known under his E-Mantra alias, is one of my country’s most appreciated Goa artists. Though the project was started in 2000, his debut album didn’t drop until 9 years later. The one to secure the release of his debut long-player, Arcana, was Belgian imprint Suntrip Records. Lost inside the LP’s tracklist is the fantastic original mix of Ninive Under The Stars. However, we’re not here for the original.

Wishing to explore the slower and darker shades of Goa, Emanuel conjured up his Nigh Hex alias and set to work. Not long after, his mini-album Viziuni Nocturne (which translates to Nocturnal Visions) was picked up by the same Belgian imprint I mentioned earlier, Suntrip Records. Among the tracks included, one can find today’s ReWind feature.

Delving deeper into the sound, the Night Hex remix offers a slight run time extension, a crisper presentation and an accentuated sense of space. Thought darker, the atmosphere never feels heavy or ominous, but rather surreal. As an icing on the cake, the 303 quietly plays its part, guiding the listener forward into this phenomenal slice of Psybient goodness.

Until next week, feel free to not believe a word I’ve written above and check out the Night Hex Remix of E-Mantra – Ninive Under The Stars for yourselves. 🙂
