The ReWind series exists as merely an aid in the discovery (or rather, rediscovery) of the unintentionally forgotten, or the often overlooked tracks of yesteryear.
Looking through the archives, I realized there was a noticeable absence of anything Lost Language related in the ReWind series. Today’s post is a first step towards rectifying this situation.
Although you might not know Rick Simmonds or Stephen Jones simply by name, you’ve likely heard some of their work. The two were the masterminds behind names like Ascension, Chakra, Lustral and, of course, The Space Brothers. The respectable size of their back catalogue meant the choice was a difficult one to make, but in the end, I settled on their 4th single as Chakra.
The year is 2003, and the track in question is Doors, a deep, 8 minute long prog-trancer. Landing in spot number 21 of the LL catalogue, Doors‘ A side featured Kate Cameron on vocals, underlined by its expertly crafted instrumental. Flip it over and you find yet another gem, as Simmonds & Jones offer a cracker of a Dub mix under their Space Brothers guise.
Some may consider it boring, but I personally get tremendous enjoyment out of hearing a track build up, therefore it was a no brainer to go with the B side. Whilst keeping things still firmly in prog-trance territory, this version has more energy than many of today’s more polished productions. It’s now 13 years later, and the atmosphere created still triggers those highly sought-after goosebumps. The chopped up vocals of the original further highlight was is an already terrific version.
Until next time, enjoy the Space Brothers Dub of Chakra, Doors:
