15 years ago, one of Hux Flux‘s biggest tracks, Error Head, saw a release under Swedish imprint Spiral Trax. A decade and a half later, the track is kindly brought back to the fore thanks to remixes from Astro-D and Oberon. Let’s take a look.
Maybe you’re new to this particular style of trance and feel it can be overwhelming, but embracing the quirkiness is probably the best way to go about it. Seasoned listeners will no doubt feel right at home, knowing that one of their favourites has just gotten a new paint job.
Picking the refitted, remastered version from Hux Flux himself will give you a real nostalgia trip, so be prepared to experience the same rush you had back then, all over again. Cleaner, crisper, more defined, the Error Head Redeaux is everything you loved about the original in crystal clear sound. And who doesn’t want that?
Astro-D opts for a more FX laden approach, with the bubbling water at the beginning (and at certain points in the mix) signaling a definite reconstruction is underway. The thundering baseline blows the door off its hinges right from the get go, but ducks out of the way to let the snare shine from time to time. The constant twists and turns of the mix are a personal highlight for me, as it keeps things from getting boring. One thing’s for sure: there’s no mistaking Astro’s mix for another.
And lastly, Oberon‘s mix is a little less generous with the FX, sliding right inbetween the first two, as far the vibe goes. The base feels a little more toned down, and there’s a little more emphasis on the original elements. Don’t get me wrong though, this version is no slouch and will undoubtedly rival the aforementioned two mixes in terms of energy. High intensity psy, as was to be expected.
Three mixes, three different views on the same material. You are free not only to pick whichever of the trio is more to your liking, but you can head over to the array of stores linked below to grab the EP, as it is out now. Sound off in the comments if you so desire. 🙂
