After making their debut on Monster Tunes‘ Force imprint nigh a month ago, Akira Kayosa, Hugh Tolland and Matt Noland regroup for yet another energetic uplifter, this time put together for KSX’s Critical State. Let’s have a look.
To me, Twenty is one of those successful hybrids of modern and classic trance, packed to the brim with all those feel good sounds that tick all the boxes from the very first listen. A strong intro is a must with these things, something Twenty pulls off effortlessly, luring its unsuspecting listener to the break. Full of lightweight, choir-like pads, the calmest bit of this production further accentuates the classic feel until…there’s silence. This moment of silence makes the impact of what comes next all the more pronounced.
The noticeable thud you hear soon after is a sign that things are about to get seriously uplifting. With such a good lead melody and a fitting climax to the whole track, it’s hard to ignore the ever more present goosebumps. Akira, Hugh and Matt have extracted the essence of what makes uplifting trance great and cleverly used it to fuel one of the best examples of this style in a long while. Hats off to you three, this is a keeper.
If you’d like to buy it, the release date is kind of hinted by the name itself, as Kayosa, Tolland & Matt Noland‘s Twenty hits Beatport on July 20th. Two weeks later, you’ll be able to get it from other stores, if you so desire. Go on, have a listen.
