As has happened previously, tech trance took a little break from the site, but now it’s back in full force with the newest offering from the folks at Critical State, who serve up a fresh out of the studio production from Liam Melly. Giving a helping hand, Liam Wilson has also stepped in to imprint his sound onto the original. Let’s zoom in a little, shall we?
A tech trance production doesn’t need to just scream at me with its acids, but rather also include some kind of melodic side (in the end, it’s still trance). That’s precisely what I’ve found in Liam’s original, because Pushing the Limits didn’t just get fitted with a properly enjoyable intro, it also benefited from a very satisfying lead and climax. In the end, it all comes down to how much enjoyment one gets out of listening to these things, and frankly, I had great fun listening to it. Definitely recommend this one, but let’s not forget about the rework, yeah?
Liam Wilson Remix
Liam Wilson’s version puts a lot more accent on the acids and gives the melody a much bigger role in the overall arrangement. Although the tweaks are slight, they make a big difference, with the build-up sounding a little more powerful, and the climax going the more melodic route, in comparison to the original. Mr. Wilson has taken care of remix duties brilliantly, which means it’s difficult to choose either of the two versions as a favourite, since they’re both tremendously enjoyable.
Whatever your preference is, I can tell you the EP is headed out for a May 18th Beatport exclusive release, followed by general availability on June 1st. There’s still time, so check these two samples to get an idea about what’s what. 🙂
