The ReWind series exists as merely an aid in the discovery (or rather, rediscovery) of the unintentionally forgotten, or the often overlooked tracks of yesteryear.
You might’ve noticed that last week the series took a little break, but now it’s back, so let’s get on with it. For this feature, flip your calendars back to 2007, as we delve into the back catalogue of German production duo Kolpfgeister.
Set up in 2001 by Thorsten Paul and Jens Schefzig, this project has had quite a number of singles released, with 2005 bringing on the guys’ debut album, Sweet Compromises. A year later, their Sunflavoured long player hit the stores under German imprint Iono Music, and in 2007, Travel Diaries popped up in stores under the same imprint. It is from their third album that this feature has been selected.
The cleverly dubbed Chord In The Act is an exploration of the intricate nature of trance’s sound, with plenty of play between base, melody and kicks, which creates this very funky vibe overall. The break swings proceedings into near tribal territory, but soon enough, the baseline takes hold once more, pushing the track towards its psy styled climax. All in all, a tremendously fun thing to listen to, as I hope you’ll see for yourself.
Enjoy the sample and see you next week. 🙂
