In the 12 years since its release, Raja Ram’s The Secret Of The 13 Skulls compilation has pretty much reached legendary status among members of the psy community, and February 2nd will see the refresh of one of its biggest components, Astrix‘s The Fourth Revelation.
The honour of remixing Avi’s original goes to Serbian producer Zyce, who tones down some of the more prominent acids in the source material, but keeps the track’s signature tempo swings and lead, for an intriguing journey through progressive and psy. The quirkiness of The Foruth Revelation is hard to transfer into a modern day rework because of its many facets and supporting sounds. That said, what works for a certain time frame, might not work for another, so the 2015 equivalent can certainly hold its own against the original.
At the end of the day, I believe Zyce‘s version manages to give the newer generation of listeners a very desirable update, cleaning up the sound a little bit, but keeping The Foruth Revelation‘s most important bits. Oh, here’s another bit of trivia: Astrix himself made the cover for this EP. How cool is that?
Enough of me babbling. This one’s off for release on February 2nd, exclusively to Beatport. Have a listen below. 🙂
