The ReWind series exists as merely an aid in the discovery (or rather, rediscovery) of the unintentionally forgotten, or the often overlooked tracks of yesteryear.
This week, let’s take a look at one of the biggest records of all time, which, despite its age, still sounds absolutely brilliant. I am of course, talking about Access.
Produced by Dutchmen Mischa van der Heiden (DJ Misjah, AMbassador) and Tim Hoogesteger, the 1995 X-Trax release (and second for the newly formed imprint) was unusually popular with the DJs of the time, being pitched down at house parties or pitched up at techno / trance parties, its signature stab and screaming 303s resounding everywhere. Its rather spartan structure, heavy base line and accompanying elements made it a favourite of ravers from the 20th century’s last decade.
While I wasn’t part of the scene back then (I was too young to go to any club of any sort), I can fully understand how this production became as big as it has. Its vocal sample from Picnic In The Summertime by Deee-Lite, coupled with its addictive 303 sound and top notch build-up have no doubt made me appreciate it to its fullest value. I find it amazing that 20 years on, this still has the ability to make you test your sound system to the limits, and enjoy doing that. Timeless piece of electronic music.
So, for newcomers (like me) and veterans alike, here’s the original 12 inch mix of DJ Misjah & DJ Tim, Access:
Country: The Netherlands / Style: Acid, Techno / Year: 1995 / Label: X-Trax
