1995 saw the release of one of the biggest records of all time, Misjah & Tim‘s Access. Two decades after the fact, it returns to dance floors worldwide thanks to a mad new rework from one of the premier names in trance, John Askew.
It’s well known that remixing a classic is quite a hard job, especially because of the inevitable comparison to the original. That said, John is one of the very few producers who can take a classic and rework it with his trademark heavily acidized sound, without losing any of the original’s charm. It’s obvious in his remixes of Alienated, Are Am Eye, Narcotic Influence…shall I go on? Point is, he’s always done a superb job updating these tracks, and Access is no exception.
He kept the distinctive synth stab of the original, and turned the 303s way past 11, in fact I think he might’ve broken the knob. The way this rework builds gives a vivid reminder of Access‘ reign on the dance floor, and offers the listener as much of an adrenaline rush (if not more so) than the source material. It’s hard not to get excited when you’re presented with a piece of electronic music history that’s been updated so well. Fantastic work from John, as usual.
This remix is out exclusively on Beatport Monday, January 26th. Have a listen:
