KSX‘s Critical Overload is once again in the spotlight, this time with a collaboration between KSX A&R Casey Rasch and Lebanese producer Taranhawk.
Lords Of War is a fusion between the highly melodic sounds of uplifting, sporadic injections of tech, and a prominent psy vibe that permeates the track in its entirety. Between its euphoric breakdown and off-beat base release, it manages to effortlessly switch between styles, creating in the process a uniquely smooth blend of sounds that definitely stands out from the pack. Really good.
On the flip side, you’ll find a rework from Critical Overload regular Chris Voro. His fittingly dubbed Kaleidoscopic Remix is a showcase of intricate breaks patterns, coupled with funky acid layers and dub delays, which turn the production completely on its head. Before hearing some of Chris’ more recent remixes, I wasn’t a big fan of psy breaks. Luckily, because of him, I’ve now learned to appreciate this sub-style. All in all, another fantastic reshuffle by mr. Voro, which is reason enough for it to be the focus of this post.
The EP is headed for an August 18th release on Beatport. Until then, here’s Chris Voro’s Kaleidoscopic Remix in all its intricate glory:
