The torrid summer days are upon us, so it’s best to just kick back and relax. Through Chill Week, I’m providing the soundtrack for your relaxation session.
I’ll be honest, when the idea to do this series first popped into my head, I had no clue what tracks to pick, I had nowhere near the required amount of knowledge to even ponder writing about it. While I’m no expert now, I think I’ve gathered a small insight into this genre as to at least attempt writing about it. The funny thing is, with all the legendary names to choose from and all that, it’s still the lesser-known producers that get my attention. Case in point, this track.
I stumbled upon Growing Upwards while (somewhat) mindlessly browsing Soundcloud (as one often does). It’s produced by a 23 year-old bloke from the UK, called David Bryan Hinman, and it’s absolutely amazing. The track opens with some chilling drones, followed by a panning sound that sets the scene for what’s about to happen next. Faint kicks start, along with the center piece of this production, the guitar. With a really crisp, summer-y sounding guitar, accompanied by subtle percussion and the odd kick, Growing Upwards is an example of less is more, done right.
What I found rather surprising is that it’s available for free. There are plenty of situations in which “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is” applies. This isn’t one of them.
Check out this properly great piece of music and grab your copy below. Also, do listen to some of his other stuff. You won’t be disappointed. 🙂
