The ReWind series exists as merely an aid in the discovery (or rather, rediscovery) of the unintentionally forgotten, or the often overlooked tracks of yesteryear.
If you’re a fan of the classics, you must already be familiar with Synaesthesia, crafted by now legendary British producer Steven Helstrip, aka The Thrillseekers. That one, which was his debut single, went on to sell over 12,000 copies. Its massive success would remain unchallenged for approximately half a decade.
Interestingly enough, Steve was also behind aliases such as En Motion and Hydra. The production that challenged the success of his first Thrillseekers single came from the latter moniker.
In 2003, under Hydra, he secured the second release from Discover Records. Entitled Affinity, the track went on to become a classic in its own right. It sports a lush melody, courtesy of the Nord Lead, and stunning vocals performed by Tiff Lacey. The airy breakdown and smooth bass rhythm have catapulted this firmly into my all-time favourites.
Affinity was subsequently released in 2005 under Adjusted Music, Steven’s own imprint, and re-released in 2010 under Armada alongside some new remixes.
I suppose telling you about it is kinda cool, but how about you hear for yourself what all the fuss is about. Here’s the Thrillseekers Dub Mix of Hydra, Affinity:
