While I’m on vacation, you’ll receive a recommendation each day, for the next 7 days. Focusing on the classics and classic sounding trance productions, this is my attempt to highlight some of the tracks you might not have known about, but which are, no doubt, quality pieces of musical history.
Day 3 brings to your attention one of the (probably) most interesting of the classic bunch. Why? Read on.
From Dutch masters Benno De Goeij and Piet Bervoets, better known to you and me as Rank 1, it is my pleasure to give you Airwave.
Widely considered to be the originators of the ‘trance sound’, Benno and Piet are two of the most well known producers in trance history, having helped this genre become the worldwide phenomenon that it is today. The use of the super-saw was one of the most notable features of Airwave, helping it reach in 1999 the #10 position in the UK Singles Chart, and #25 position in the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. All in all, a massive commercial success for the two and the beginning of a new phase in the genre’s development.
Tune in tomorrow for yet another slice of trance history.
